WeTip: Encouraging everyone to report crime
Underage drinking and illegal drug use are crimes. Selling drugs to anyone of any age is a crime. Providing alcohol to a minor is a crime. Allowing teens to consume alcohol in your home - even if you don’t provide the liquor - is a crime. But if you or a minor knows of someone committing a crime, you may be reluctant to call the police...because the person you’re reporting might be a neighbor, a co-worker, or a student sitting at the next desk.
That’s why we have instituted the WeTip program here in Blue Springs. It’s a simple, anonymous way to report any illegal activity, whether the crime is alcohol or drug related, theft, harassment, or anything else. Any crime may be reported to WeTip, and callers are guaranteed to remain anonymous. Calls to WeTip go to their offices in California and the information provided is then routed to the Blue Springs Police Department where follow-up action is taken. Callers are never asked to leave a name, phone number, or any other identifying information. Those calling in with a tip are given a unique code to use should future communication with WeTip be necessary.
If an arrest is made as the result of a tip, the caller may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Using the code, WeTip has a system for getting the reward to the caller without knowing who that person is. For more information, visit their web site at www.wetip.com.
